Claude can now do more than answer questions. Plugins bundle Skills and connections to services so Claude can work on recurring tasks with the right context. Which capabilities you see depends on your account and the plugin.
- Anthropic is gradually combining chat and Cowork in one Claude interface.
- Choose plugins for the task you need, not from a blanket ranking.
- The component matrix distinguishes chat conversations, Cowork tasks, and Claude Code. Agents and hooks run in Cowork tasks and Claude Code.
Anthropic describes a move to one chat and Cowork interface. The rollout is gradual. On migrated accounts, you no longer need to choose a Cowork mode before starting a complex task. Other accounts still see separate options.
What Claude plugins contain
A plugin bundles Skills and connectors for a particular area of work. Some include additional components. In Claude, open Customize > Plugins > Discover, select a plugin, then click Add. If your account still has the separate interface, open the Cowork tab first. Plugins are saved to your Claude account, so installation is not tied to one computer.
The overview below summarizes task areas listed in Anthropic's official plugin repository. These descriptions reflect the published scope, not an independent performance test. Sources checked on October 26, 2026.
Choose plugins by task
Planning, search, and data
- Productivity manages tasks, daily planning, and important work context. It can use calendar, email, and chat.
- Enterprise Search searches connected company sources such as email, chat, documents, and wikis.

- Customer Support triages tickets, drafts responses, escalates cases, and helps build a knowledge base.
Marketing, product, and engineering
- Marketing supports content, campaign planning, brand voice, competitor research, and performance reporting.
- Product Management helps with feature specs, roadmaps, and synthesizing user research.
- Engineering bundles engineering workflows such as code review, architecture decisions, incident response, and technical documentation.

Operations, people, and specialist tasks
- Operations supports vendor management, process documentation, change management, capacity planning, and compliance workflows.
- Human Resources offers workflows for recruiting, onboarding, performance reviews, compensation analysis, and people policies.

The official repository also includes partner integrations such as Slack by Salesforce, Apollo, Common Room, and Brand Voice. Third-party connections may require a separate account, additional permissions, or a separate plan. Check each plugin's requirements before installing it.
Which plugin components run on each surface?
Anthropic's current component matrix lists Skills for chat, Cowork, and Claude Code. Commands work on all three surfaces too, as Skills in chat and under /plugin-name:command in Cowork. Agents and hooks are skipped in ordinary chat but load for Cowork tasks and Claude Code. Remote MCP servers work once you add or connect them in Claude. Anthropic's sources describe local MCP servers differently: the component matrix lists them for Cowork sessions running on your computer, while the current usage help also describes access to local connectors through the open Desktop app when a task runs in the cloud. Anthropic's architecture guide says the MCP server itself does not run inside the cloud session. Check the specific plugin and the connection available in your account.
In the unified interface, you can start a Cowork task from any conversation. The matrix still distinguishes an ordinary chat conversation from an agentic Cowork task. Cloud tasks run on Anthropic's servers and keep running after you close Claude. A cloud task can reach local files only if it was started on Desktop or scheduled, and Claude Desktop remains open. Browser use, computer use, and local connectors also need the Desktop app open. The component matrix lists local MCP servers in Cowork for sessions running on your computer. The current usage help also describes access to local connectors through Desktop during cloud tasks. Anthropic's architecture guide says the MCP server itself does not run inside the cloud session. On Pro and Max, new Cowork tasks run in the cloud. Only tasks started on the device before October 6, 2026 remain local. For sensitive data, check the actual execution location, your organization's policies, and the permissions of connected services.
Pick a practical starting point
- For task planning with calendar or email context: Productivity.
- For spreadsheets, SQL, and visualizations: Data. For bookkeeping and month-end close: Finance.
- For lead, call, and pipeline work: Sales.
- For tickets and response drafts: Customer Support.
- For product or engineering work: Product Management or Engineering, depending on the task.
These suggestions follow the plugins' published descriptions. Check their connectors and permissions before sharing real customer, employee, or financial data.

Frequently Asked Questions
Plugins bundle components for particular tasks. These can include Skills, connectors, and other components depending on the plugin. Which parts work in Claude chat, Cowork, or Claude Code depends on the component. Anthropic's plugin help explains the available surfaces.
Anthropic is gradually combining chat and Cowork in one interface. On migrated accounts, you can start complex tasks in the same conversation where you ask questions. The rollout varies by account and plan, so some people still see separate chat and Cowork options. Tasks that use files or apps on your computer require Claude Desktop to stay open.
In Claude, open Customize > Plugins > Discover, select a plugin, and click Add. If your account still has the older interface with separate chat and Cowork options, open Cowork first. Installed plugins are saved to your Claude account and may be available in chat, Cowork, and Claude Code depending on their components.
The current component matrix distinguishes chat conversations, Cowork tasks, and Claude Code. Skills and commands work on all three surfaces; agents and hooks are skipped in ordinary chat but load in Cowork tasks and Claude Code. The unified interface lets you start Cowork tasks in any conversation. That does not mean agents and hooks run for every ordinary chat reply. Anthropic's sources describe local MCP servers differently: the component matrix lists them for Cowork sessions running on your computer, while the current usage help also describes access to local connectors through the open Desktop app when a task runs in the cloud.
