pplx-embed-v2-late-0.6b

Summary

Perplexity released pplx-embed-v2-late as open weights on Hugging Face on October 7, 2026. The family uses ColBERT-style late interaction for retrieval across text, images, and visual documents.

The 0.6B variant produces 128-dimensional vectors per token and scores matches with MaxSim, according to its model card. The card reports 340 million active parameters. Its shared embedding space also lets the smaller model query an index created with the 9B variant.

Text and images must be processed in separate batches. Mixed text-image batches are not supported. The weights are licensed under MIT. On the public ViDoRe v3 set, the vendor reports nDCG@10 of 62.3% for images and 61.2% for Markdown documents.
