What is a meta-harness?

A harness is the coding agent itself: the program that connects a language model to tools such as file access and a terminal. Examples are Claude Code, Codex CLI and OpenCode.

A meta-harness sits one level above. It launches one or more of these agents, often in parallel in separate git worktrees, shows their changes for review and keeps sessions, tasks and terminals in one place.

To compare the coding agents themselves, see the AI harness directory.
