AI text generators are far more than just trending topics in the SEO and copywriting world in 2025.
I see discussions about them increasingly in Facebook groups or on X (formerly Twitter) and discover more blogs and websites that are partially or even completely created by AI.
So I asked myself: How good are these tools really?
And the answer is definitely different from what I expected at the beginning of my research and testing a few months ago.
Because AI texts are no longer what they were just a few years ago!
In this article, I've tested ten of the most well-known AI text generators and writing assistants in detail. You'll also learn what tasks the tools are suitable for, what my favorite templates are, and in which direction text generators will develop in the future.
- Neuroflash leads with the best German text quality and over 100 templates – ideal for German SEO content from $27/month
- Writesonic offers the best value for money with Chat AI and Image AI from just $13/month – also suitable for German texts
- 6 tools offer free tiers for testing – AI texts can reduce writing time by 2-3x but still can't replace professional copywriters
1. What is an AI Text Generator?
AI text generators (also called AI writing tools or AI writing assistants) are computer programs or apps that can automatically compose texts.
For text generation, just a headline, introductory text, or task description (also called a prompt) is sufficient as input.
AI text tools use language models that work with deep learning, meaning they can "learn from experience" and are pre-trained on huge amounts of text, like the complete Wikipedia.
And no:
Even though additions like "artificial intelligence (AI)" suggest that AI text generators have human-like text understanding, they are ultimately just software that determines how a sentence or paragraph is likely to continue based on enormous amounts of data.
Nevertheless, the technology is groundbreaking and will feel like magic more than once (at least that's how it happened to me)!
1.1 How Good Are Today's AI Text Generators?
AI text generators have made a huge leap in the last three years and are getting better and better. Not only in English but also in German.
Of course, these tools still can't replace a professional copywriter, but they can take a lot of work off your hands during the writing process and save you massive amounts of time.
More than I thought myself (and perhaps more than you think).
AI text tools are now among my most-used SEO tools and are used in almost every blog article I write. We've dramatically changed our process for writing blog articles and are now 2-3x as effective as without AI.
What's important to understand is that the quality of input is crucial for the quality of output. If you know how to properly "feed" the tools, you'll achieve significantly better results with Jasper, Neuroflash, and others.
1.2 What Are They Suitable For?
AI text generators are very well suited for short texts, brainstorming and content planning, or tedious text work. For example, they can:
- Generate headlines
- Generate product descriptions
- Short answers to questions (e.g., in FAQs)
- Write blog article introductions
- Generate product, blog, or brand names
- Plan the structure of a blog article
- Provide ideas for new blog articles or social media posts
- Write the first draft of a blog article
- Shorten, summarize, or rewrite texts
However, they are rather unsuitable for:
- Texts on complex topics
- Texts where correct information and facts are important (e.g., in health, finance, or law)
- Sensitive topics (racism, sexism, discrimination, sexuality, etc.)
- Entire books and longer e-books
- Fiction (in many cases)

3. Detailed Test Results
Below you'll find the detailed test results of all AI text generators (in order of their test results):
3.1 Neuroflash

Price: Freemium, from $27/month
Templates: 100+
German Text Quality: excellent
Neuroflash is currently the best AI text generator:
For English texts, it's roughly on par with Jasper.ai, Writesonic, and Frase. For German texts, Neuroflash performed slightly worse than Jasper in the last test in early 2023 but has now surpassed the US competitor.
Neuroflash is also one of the few tools that has a German user interface, offers German support, and is committed to high European data protection standards as a German company:
According to its own statements, Neuroflash is GDPR-compliant. Data sent to OpenAI is also not used as training data for language models and remains confidential.
One of the big advantages of Neuroflash is the huge selection of templates. Overall, the tool is suitable for 100+ text types and use cases:

The heart of Neuroflash is the AI writer, a clear editor where you can also write and format long texts.
You can either continue your text with the push of a button, open the ChatFlash chatbot in the sidebar, or insert texts using the 100+ templates accessible via the sidebar:

German Text Quality
Unlike some other AI text generators, Neuroflash natively supports the German language (the text is not generated in English and then translated with DeepL or Google Translate).
This is naturally reflected in the text quality. Even texts with German dialects are possible here.
Additionally, Neuroflash offers a blog article wizard that works very well for German blog articles, and various templates specifically for German texts:
- Rewriting from informal to formal address (and vice versa)
- Dialect rewriting
- Gender-neutral language adjustments
All in all, Neuroflash performed slightly better than Jasper, Writesonic, and Frase in German text quality and secured first place in our text generator comparison. Text generation is now also very fast (which wasn't the case in our last test).
What is Neuroflash Best Suited For?
Neuroflash is the best AI text generator for German texts and is also the best choice for companies that value data protection.
It doesn't break the bank either:
You can get the Standard plan with 30,000 words per month from just $27 per month, which is very fair. If you want to generate a lot of text, the Pro plan from $73 per month is worth it, which includes unlimited words and images.
Neuroflash also offers a free plan with 2,000 words that lets you extensively test the tool before deciding on a paid plan.
50OFF to save 50% in the first month.- Free plan available (with 2,000 words per month)
- Native support for German language (no translation during text creation)
- GDPR-compliant according to own statements
- Very good German text quality
- Fast text generation
- Good and fast blog article wizard
- Can write in dialects (e.g., Bavarian)
- Large selection of templates
- Special templates for the German language
- Constant development of features
- Keyword research with Seobility integrated, great for SEO texts
- User interface and support in German
- Image AI included, even in the free plan (new!)
- Integrated AI chatbot 'ChatFlash' that works similarly to ChatGPT and is optimized for German
3.2 Writesonic

Price: Freemium, from $13/month
Templates: 80+
German Text Quality: good to excellent
Writesonic impresses with an affordable price and good to excellent German text quality that almost matches Neuroflash.
It also has a modern and clear user interface, with the "Sonic Editor" a good long-form editor, and with Chatsonic the best integrated chatbot of all tested AI text generators.
Since our last test, the tool has developed enormously and secured 2nd place, ahead of the market leader Jasper, which it was inferior to until a few months ago.
For example, Writesonic has constantly improved its templates. With the new "AI Article Writer 5.0", you can create blog articles up to 2,500 words long based on your competitors' or your own articles.
The output quality is okay and provides a good foundation for a blog article. However, you should always expect to have to thoroughly edit the article:

I also like that Writesonic offers a Surfer SEO integration that works similarly to Jasper:

A highlight of Writesonic is the integrated AI chatbot Chatsonic, which for me is currently one of the best alternatives to ChatGPT:
With Chatsonic, you can set up Google search results to be included in the answer. This way you also get an answer when you ask about a current event, like the 2022 World Cup:

ChatGPT, on the other hand, can't (at least without ChatGPT plugins, which are only available with ChatGPT Plus) provide the result of the World Cup and indicates that the World Cup is still 3 years in the future:

Recently, it's even possible in Chatsonic to enter links and upload files that are then considered in chat responses:

German Text Quality
The German text quality of Writesonic is good to excellent but doesn't quite match Neuroflash.
If the text quality were slightly better and the tool were just a bit better tailored to German users, Writesonic could have secured first place in the test. Because compared to Neuroflash, it scores in usability, the AI chatbot, and feature range.
A shortcoming of Writesonic is that there's no option to switch between formal and informal address. And this unfortunately can't be completely or partially circumvented by changing the "Tone of Voice" in the editor, as the AI text editor doesn't offer such a setting either.
What is Writesonic Best Suited For?
Writesonic is the best choice for English texts. It also offers the best AI chatbot in the test.
The feature range is also very large. In addition to an AI chatbot, it has an integrated AI image generator, Brand Voice, a chatbot builder, and with "Bulk Generate" a function to create texts in bulk.
It also offers one of the best value-for-money ratios in the test:
In the Unlimited plan from $16 per month, you can generate unlimited text, but only with GPT-3.5.
The Business plan offers you 33,333 words with GPT-4 and 200,000 words with GPT-3 from $12.67 per month (up to 12 or 2 million words are possible for an additional fee).
- Best value for money in the test
- Generous trial with 10,000 words
- AI image generator that you can pay for with text credits
- Integrated chatbot builder
- Brand Voice (global information about your company and branding)
- Clear and modern user interface
- Integration for Surfer SEO
- Affordable Unlimited plan
- Very good for beginners (from $12.67 per month)
- Large selection of templates
- Constant development of templates and features
- One-click export to WordPress
- API integration
- Browser extension
- Adjustable whether GPT-3.5 or GPT-4 should be used (Premium and Superior)
- Very good AI chatbot that can retrieve Google data (and thus a good alternative to ChatGPT)
- German user interface available
3.3 Jasper.ai

Price: from $39/month
Templates: 50+
German Text Quality: good to excellent
Jasper (formerly Jarvis and before that Conversion.ai) is one of the most well-known and oldest text generators on the market.
Jasper was in first place in our test for a long time but now has to admit defeat to Writesonic and Neuroflash. It still performs very well but hasn't developed as strongly as the competition in the last six months.
It comes with 50+ templates for different text types and tasks:

It's not only possible to write longer blog articles with Jasper but also introductions, product descriptions, meta descriptions, texts for Facebook Ads or Google Ads, or headlines. Jasper can also summarize, improve, or rewrite text.
I particularly like that there's a Surfer SEO integration for Jasper that lets you use the Content Editor directly in the Jasper app:

Surfer SEO and Jasper are an absolute dream team!
German Text Quality
Both input and output language can be set to German in Jasper. You can also choose between "less formal" and "more formal", which is super important:

Unfortunately, Jasper, like most other AI text tools and writing assistants, doesn't natively support German. It uses the translation tool DeepL to translate text generated in English into other languages.
The German text quality is good to excellent but no longer matches Neuroflash. What Jasper lacks are templates specifically designed for the German language.
What is Jasper.ai Best Suited For?
Jasper is the jack-of-all-trades among AI text generators and is capable of meeting a wide range of requirements.
In my experience, it's very well suited for brainstorming (e.g., for list posts), article planning, and writing the first draft of an article. From the first draft, you can pick out the text sections you like and then fill in the gaps yourself.
If you primarily create German texts, I would recommend Neuroflash. For English texts, Writesonic is better and also significantly cheaper.
- Very good text quality (also in German)
- Fast text generation
- Large library of high-quality templates (currently 50+)
- Innovative and clear text editor controllable via shortcuts
- Clear and modern backend
- With Boss Mode you can give Jasper text commands (e.g., 'Summarize the text in 300 to 400 words')
- Very good for writing SEO texts thanks to integration for Surfer SEO's Content Editor
- Settings for different writing voices (Tone of Voice)
- Brand Voice
- Browser extension that lets you use Jasper everywhere
- Large community (huge Facebook group)
- Comprehensive documentation and helpful YouTube channel
- Switchable between formal and informal address in German
- AI image generator 'Jasper Art' included
- Own Chat AI 'Jasper Chat', which is a good alternative to ChatGPT
3.4 Frase

Price: from $45/month
Templates: 40+
German Text Quality: good
Frase combines an AI text tool with a SERP analysis tool that helps you better understand the search intent of your keywords and create matching content.
With Frase, you can view the top 20 Google results for a keyword and analyze what questions users have about the keyword, what topics are covered in the top results, and what headlines are used.
The tool also offers a Content Editor that works similarly to Surfer SEO or Clearscope and shows you which keywords you should use how often in your text.
German Text Quality
Frase's German text quality is good but not outstanding. The tool is primarily aimed at the English-speaking market and uses translations for German texts.
For German SEO texts, I would rather use Neuroflash in combination with a separate SEO tool.
- Combination of AI text generator and SEO tool
- SERP analysis for better understanding of search intent
- Content Editor with keyword optimization
- Good integration with Google Search Console
- Question Research for FAQ creation
3.5 ClosersCopy

Price: from $49/month
Templates: 60+
German Text Quality: good
ClosersCopy is specifically geared towards sales copy and copywriting. It offers many templates for sales pages, email sequences, and advertising copy.
The tool uses its own AI models in addition to GPT-3, making it more independent of OpenAI. It also offers a lifetime deal, which has become rare for AI tools.
- Specialized in sales copy and advertising texts
- Own AI models in addition to GPT-3
- Lifetime deal available
- Good template selection for marketing texts
- SEO audit function integrated
3.6 Rytr

Price: Freemium, from $9/month
Templates: 30+
German Text Quality: average
Rytr is one of the cheapest AI text generators in the test. It offers a free version with 10,000 characters per month and very affordable premium plans.
The user interface is simple and clear, making it a good tool for beginners. However, the text quality, especially in German, is only average.
- Very affordable (from $9/month)
- Free version available
- Easy to use
- Browser extension available
- Plagiarism check integrated
3.7 Copy.ai

Price: Freemium, from $49/month
Templates: 90+
German Text Quality: average
Copy.ai offers a large selection of templates and a modern user interface. It has developed strongly in recent months and now also offers workflow automation.
The free version is quite generous with 2,000 words per month. However, the German text quality is only average since the tool was primarily developed for the English-speaking market.
- Large template selection (90+)
- Modern user interface
- Workflow automation
- Free version with 2,000 words
- Team collaboration possible
3.8 Writecream

Price: Freemium, from $29/month
Templates: 30+
German Text Quality: average
Writecream offers AI-generated voice messages and videos in addition to text generation. It's one of the few tools with an integrated icebreaker generator for cold outreach.
The tool has a chatbot and image AI integrated, making it an all-in-one tool. However, the German text quality is only average.
- All-in-one tool with text, image, audio, and video
- Chatbot integrated
- Image AI included
- Icebreaker generator for cold outreach
- Free version available
3.9 WordHero

Price: from $49/month (lifetime deal available)
Templates: 70+
German Text Quality: average
WordHero offers one of the last available lifetime deals for AI text generators. With over 70 templates, it has a good selection, but the quality of German texts is only average.
- Lifetime deal available
- Large template selection (70+)
- Unlimited word count in higher plans
- Easy to use
3.10 Neuraltext

Price: from $49/month
Templates: 40+
German Text Quality: poor
Neuraltext combines AI text generation with keyword research and SERP analysis. It's structured similarly to Frase but with worse text quality, especially in German.
The tool is better suited for content research than actual text generation. It's not recommended for German texts.
- Integrated keyword research
- SERP analysis function
- Content brief creation
- Good documentation
Conclusion
AI text generators have evolved from a gimmick to indispensable tools for content creators. While they still can't replace human creativity and expertise, they're excellent assistants that significantly speed up the writing process.
For German texts, Neuroflash is currently the best choice, while Writesonic offers the best value for money. Jasper remains the all-rounder for professional users.
What's important is to see AI tools for what they are: tools that support us but don't replace us. With the right approach and some practice, they can multiply your productivity and help you create better content in less time.
The future of text generation is exciting, and we're just at the beginning of this revolution. It's worth getting in now and gaining experience before AI-generated content becomes the standard.
